Thousands of people from all walks of life come through Airfield Supply Company’s doors, everyday. With a variety of potential benefits offered by our favorite powerful plant, we want to know what role cannabis plays in our customers’ lives – Why they fly. Their answers just might surprise you!
Introducing Daniel Ristow:
Daniel Ristow flies, thousands of feet in the air across landscapes all over the world. No, he’s not a pilot or flight attendant and he doesn’t work for the U.S. Airforce. Ristow takes real, human-powered flight – or about as close as it can get.
As a wingsuit BASE jumper and skydiver hailing from Los Gatos, California, Ristow has completed 600 BASE jumps and skydives. BASE jumping involves parachuting off any type of fixed structure. The acronym, B.A.S.E, actually stands for each category of fixed objects that you can jump off of – building, antenna, span, and earth. Daniel adds a wingsuit into the mix, which looks like a flying-squirrel suit and allows him to fly terrifyingly close to terrain.
Yes, BASE jumping can be as dangerous as it sounds. In the world of extreme sports, this one is known to be deadly without the proper education and skills. Ristow spends hours before any flight, studying treacherous terrain, trekking up mountains without any trails for guidance, and analyzing the dynamics of past jumps – all for less than a minute of flight. About 55 seconds to be exact, of free flying.
So why does Ristow fly?
His answer just might surprise you.
During a summer camping trip in the Santa Cruz mountains, a young Ristow wanted to try a high ropes course along with all of his other campmates. On a log suspended forty feet in the air, Ristow learned he had a paralyzing fear of heights. He couldn’t take a step forward or complete the course, having to be lowered down eventually. Being scared was almost worse than the fear itself.
Fast-forward to today, at 23 years old, Ristow rock climbs, skydives and of course, BASE jumps. If this tells you anything about Ristow, it’s that he commits. In a sport as dangerous as BASE jumping, commitment is pretty important, if not critical, to survival. Whether it’s becoming the best BASE jumper or conquering his fears, Ristow pushes it to the limit, always striving to take things to the next level.
How Daniel Incorporates Cannabis Into His Lifestyle
For recovering from a sport as intense as wingsuit BASE jumping, Ristow’s secret weapon is cannabis. While he and other rock climbing friends had casually used cannabis in the past, the power of plant came into play when he discovered CBD salves. After a day of jumping, CBD heavy products like Papa & Barkley’s 3:1 Releaf Balm helps Ristow relax deeper and recover faster. The concentrated formula eases inflammation and sore muscles so Ristow can be back at it the next day.
For targeting specific areas, Ristow depends on Care By Design’s 1:1 Pain Cream. The easily portable stick is often tucked into Ristow’s pocket, for treatment whenever he needs it – even if it’s a thousand feet in the sky.
After a long day of flying, Ristow’s route to relaxation is through one of his favorite indica strains from Jetfuel Cannabis. GSC Blue Cut is a sigh of relief for Ristow’s body, helping him to unwind and rest the right way.
Cannabis helps keep Ristow in the moment, so he can appreciate and live up to his full potential in a superhuman sport that just might be the closest you can get to truly flying.
